Given the world of social media, especially Twitter, it has become more and more the case that, particularly with authors whose work I admire, I have a certain personal acquaintance with them, if not a friendship. However, this might seem problematic in the light of reviewing their books.
Similarly, publishers are increasingly taking note of bloggers, and I may from time to time receive ARCs for review, free of charge.
Finally, I come from a publishing family; my uncle is founder & managing director of Profile Books, which itself owns Serpent’s Tail among other imprints.
So, from time to time, any or all of these facts may be relevant to a review; if this is the case, I’ll link to this statement at the bottom of the review, noting why there might be a conflict of interest. I believe openness is a vital aspect of building credibility in the blogging world, and this is a key plank in that openness.
